The Black Fantastic highlights what’s new and notable in contemporary culture–with an emphasis on the the Black artists, activists, scholars and creators who are driving it forward. More importantly, they’re bringing new ways of seeing and expansive thinking to the work of creating vibrant Black futures. I call this the new Black imagination, and it was the basis for the festival of the same name that I produced in 2011. Also, the newsletter brings forward the perspective I’ve gained from a career in marketing, being a cultural worker, a dot connector, and lately, as someone who’s led two NYC cultural institutions. All that informs what you’ll see throughout this publication, either through my own writing or through highlighting the work of others.
