It’s been a bit quiet over here for the last week, but for good reason.
As many of you know, one of the things I’m passionate about is Black rock, i.e., music that embraces the full spectrum of Black music and puts a foot through limiting boundaries of commercial hip-hop and R&B.
To channel this interest, I’ve started another blog—Bold As Love: Black rock and the new Black imagination—where I want to explore what it will take to bring new audiences, particularly African-American audiences, to this music. In some ways, it seems like a problem for which there is a marketing solution. Marketing, yes, but it’s also more of a true audience development challenge, given the general lack of interest many African Americans have of in anything labeled “rock”.
Some of the content will be cross-posted at here and vice versa, where appropriate. But for the most part, I intend Bold As Love to be oriented more towards a general audience.
