Best Black rock releases of 2007

Game Rebellion’s Yohimbe at Snitch, December 19, 2007

Over at Bold As Love, I was originally going to just list what I thought to be a list of Black rock releases for 2007.  After all, if there’s real momentum in this growing community, there should at least be signs of some creative output, right?  Well, I had an even better idea: Why not let the community itself speak?  So, rather than try to do any sort of rankings, I though it would be much more valuable to get a sense of what people are listening to, what they were really feeling.

The criteria I set down was that the work they shout-out should have been released in 2007 and it should fall somewhere in the category of Black rock/Afropunk/Ghetto Metal/Urban Alternative.  I’d say that 90% of the respondents stayed in that zone, while others just shouted out what they felt was good music, pure and simple.

So, for those who might be wondering what to listen to or where to find this "Black rock" music, I give you this link.  You can follow the links in each post to the previous one in the series, or scroll down and click on the "Best 2007 releases" category on the right, which will group what’s been submitted thusfar.  I’m happy to say that it’s a diverse group (as I knew it would be!) that includes artists such as Game Rebellion, Kenna, Grammy nominee Alice Smith, Killswitch Engage, and The Family Stand, and those are just the tip of the iceberg!

Now, go discover some good music!
