Look around NYC and you’ll see these on the feet of women in midtown. They cost anywhere from $40-$60, so they’re not out of reach of many people. I can’t remember who should be attributed for this, but it certainly holds here: “Things go mainstream when desirability meets affordability.” Apparently, in this case, both are true.
My take: These are finding a welcome audience from women who want comfort, but who probably won’t wear Vans or Converse, because those brands signal “rebel”. And, sorry, Sperry (makers of the famous top-sider boat shoe) seems a little too preppy. Or country club-ish. I mean, does anyone with swag wear Sperry? Serious question.
