Actually, this is more a case of extending the conversation.
Mark Anthony Neal is an associate professor of African-American studies
at Duke University, who explores black music and black popular culture. While visiting his
blog, I spent some time listening to an NPR interview he participated in that covered Sexual Media Images of Black Women. The interview not only uses the Duke lacrosse team rape case as a
starting point, but provides more context to my previous Ghostface/Jean Grae
post. Bonus for me is that this
interview is moderated by my friend Farai Chideya.
Check it out here. There’s also a more detailed, academic analysis that Neal’s written here.
