PHOTO: A Brooklyn Still Life

It’s kinda true: There’s always something around that’s worth photographing. If you can see it, that is.

I’m particularly proud of this one. Not just the shot, but also the edit. I’m getting better at making sure my black-and-white images have a range of tones. This one feels rich and contrasty-y, but not overly done. Say yeah yeah.

Shot at Martha’s Pastries and Cafe on Bedford Avenue in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. May 8, 2023.

B&W image of the sweetening station inside a cafe. A basket with coffee sleeves and sugar dispensers can be seen next two metal buckets with various kinds of sweeteners in packets. Along the right side a heating pipe is wrapped in thick twine. Four bottles of drinks--Jarritos, Pelligrino and Sangria sit on a shelf in the wall. A chalkboard is above that noting the price of various drinks. A bright ray of sunshine slices diagonally along the bottom third of the image.
